As we commemorate 125 years of promoting the study of literature, language, and culture, we invite you to join us in celebrating this milestone. Founded in 1899, PAMLA has fostered scholarly exchange and academic excellence across generations.
To honor our rich history and ensure a vibrant future, we are launching a Matching Fund Drive. Thanks to the generosity of a dedicated benefactor, every dollar you donate will be matched, doubling the impact of your contribution. Your support will help us expand our programs, provide scholarships, and continue our tradition of fostering intellectual growth and community. So, if you donate $18, you are really donating $36. Donate $50, and you are donating $100! And PAMLA is a 501(c)(3) charitable association, so your donation is tax deductible.
We love our graduate students at PAMLA, and we try to give them as much financial support as we can afford. We love our non-US scholars and creative artists and writers, as well. But PAMLA and our graduate students (and non-US scholars and creative writers/artists) have only the support you and our other friends, members, and supporters provide. And as you know, graduate students are the future of our organization. By recognizing their work with a scholarship, we send the message that they belong and are valued at PAMLA. However, we can only give as much as we receive in donations. As of today, we can offer only four graduate students a scholarship. Our goal is to get that number up to ten, or even more than that. So if you can chip in to the PAMLA General Fund, PAMLA Scholarship Fund, Sedenquist International Scholarship Fund, PAMLA German Fund, or Svonkin Creative Arts Fund, please do! We can’t do it without you, and every bit helps.
If you could donate any amount from $12.50 to $125 in our PAMLA Matching Fund Drive, you’ll be helping us to continue to thrive as an association. We work hard to plan and hold our annual PAMLA conference (in Palm Springs in 2024; in San Francisco in 2025). We are proud to publish our terrific peer-reviewed PAMLA journal (Pacific Coast Philology—do consider submitting a scholarly humanities essay to the journal for consideration). We want to keep supporting our graduate students with scholarships and affordable opportunities to grow as scholars. And we want to continue PAMLA’s intellectual and cultural innovations, such as PAMLA Events and PAMLA Arts Matter. But we need your help to do all of that.
- To make a donation, please sign into pamla.ballastacademic.com (email me if you need help signing in). And then click on the Donations tab at the top of the page. Then, click on 2024 Donation to the PAMLA General Fund, and/or one or more of our Other Scholarship Funds, and put a dollar amount of your choice in that box that reads “amount” (just the number, please; don’t include a $ sign), and check out from there.
- You can also donate via a check sent via snail mail, Zelle or a Paypal transfer. We can also work out another means for you to donate to PAMLA (email me if you wish to make a donation in some other way, or should you wish to start another PAMLA scholarship fund: [email protected]).
