PAMLA Commitment to Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity
In light of violence against Black people in the United States; in light of attacks on Muslim, Jewish, Asian, Native American, Latinx, LGTBQ+, and other Americans, migrants, and immigrants; and in light of generations of racial and gendered inequalities and oppression of marginalized people: we wish to clearly voice our dedication to diversity, inclusion, respect, and equity at the Pacific Ancient and Modern Language Association (PAMLA). We also wish to express our commitment to resistance to all types of ethnic, national, religious, or gendered injustice. We are committed to providing venues for scholarship and creative expression that expose the nature and extent of historical prejudices of all types. We welcome anti-racist and anti-prejudicial research and scholarship, and hope that PAMLA can play a role in positive societal changes that have been too long in coming. We also commit ourselves to ongoing introspection and continual striving to make PAMLA an even more welcoming association to our diverse members.
