The 119th Annual PAMLA Conference

The PAMLA 2022 Conference will be held in Los Angeles, California at the UCLA Luskin Conference Center and Hotel, from Thursday evening, November 10 to Sunday night, November 13, 2022 (with a special welcome event the evening of Thursday, November 10).

Conference Schedule

The 2022 PAMLA Conference is being held entirely in-person. We won’t be having any virtual or hybrid sessions or papers.

PAMLA, founded as the Philological Association of the Pacific Coast in 1899, and the western affiliate of the Modern Language Association, is dedicated to the advancement and diffusion of knowledge of ancient and modern languages, literatures, and cultures.

PAMLA 2022 Merch

PAMLA 2022’s merch store has been updated to reflect our conference theme of “Geographies of the Fantastic and the Quotidian,” and to celebrate Los Angeles.

Our PAMLA 2022 Conference Artist, Faye Kwan, submitted her piece, entitled “The Library of Los Angeles.” Highlighting Los Angeles, the site of the 2022 PAMLA conference, Kwan examines the storied past of the city and region through images of palm trees, freeways, insects, a fantastical library, and the cityscape.

  • Conference: Thursday evening, November 10 through Sunday evening, November 13
  • All PAMLA conference participants must be paid PAMLA 2022 members
  • Those who aren’t participants but wish to attend may join as Auditors
  • Conference cancellations will not receive full reimbursements after October 1, 2022.
