We at PAMLA headquarters were excited to receive an email from Gabriel Rodriguez, a student at the University of Redlands, fan of Latinx and Latin American literature, and the creator of his own interesting podcast, “On the Road to Joy & Freedom.” Rodriguez had read an essay published in our journal, Pacific Coast Philology, and thought it terrific. Gabriel Rodriguez clearly has great taste.

The essay is “Octavio Paz and Sor Juana Inés de La Cruz’s Posthumous Fame,” written by the Mexican scholar Professor Margo Glantz of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) in Mexico City (the photo is of Professor Glantz), and published in Volume 28.2 (Fall 1993) of Pacific Coast Philology. Rodriguez and I were unable to find a means to contact Professor Glantz (who has also published many important books, novels, and essays, and won numerous awards). If any of you have a means of contacting Professor Glantz (or Professor Glantz Shapiro), do please let us know at [email protected]. She is retired, but still active, if this story about her 90th birthday is accurate.

Nonetheless, Gabriel Rodriguez and I agreed that it would be terrific if he read Professor Glantz’s fascinating essay as part of his podcast. And so he has!
