New Publication By PAMLA Member Živilė Gimbutas

Congratulations to PAMLA member Živilė Gimbutas, who has published Artistic Individuality, A Study of Selected Artist Novels ca. 1910-2010 (Bloomington, In:  Xlibris, 2013).

Artistic Individuality discusses autobiographical fiction by Willa Cather and James Joyce, semi-autobiographical fiction by Dodie Smith and Virginia Woolf, and fictional biographies by M. Allen Cunningham, W. Somerset Maugham, and John Updike, featuring the lives of writers, poets, painters, and a singer. The book explores recurrent issues in artist novels of the past century—childhood and childlikeness, sensuality and receptivity, the urge for self-expression in relation to nature, and creative work—finding that these are all sources of individuality.
