The Personal and the Literary

Presiding Officer:
Brigitte Prutti, University of Washington

The panel asks how we relate to the things we discuss in our own research and the ways in which we discuss them as literary scholars. How does the personal intersect with the literary in our sustained critical engagement with particular writers, texts, themes, forms, traditions, eras, or approaches? How are we to account for some of those enduring passions and obsessions in our scholarly endeavors? And why does it matter to explore this complex relation?
