Oceanic Literatures and Cultures

Presiding Officer:
Kelema Moses, Occidental College

While islands of the Pacific figure prominently in the Western imagination, literary and cultural productions of Oceania are generally elided in Humanities scholarship of the continental U.S. Since its inception in 2008, PAMLA's standing session on "Oceanic Literatures and Cultures" has featured papers on indigenous, settler, and touristic artists of the Pacific as well as mass/popular cultural phenomena in and about Hawai'i and other "insular" locales.
