Literary Property and "Character" in 19th Century American Culture

This panel will investigate the nature of authorship and public property/domain to reconsider the literary nationalist movement in the nineteenth-century U.S. in a global context. We would like to consider how American authors recognized the literary property of authorship and how they imagined their influence on the world.
