Indigenous Literatures and Cultures

Presiding Officer:
Claudia Arteaga, Scripps College

This panel addresses any aspect of Indigenous literature, culture and critical theory. Papers reflecting on the role played by the modern book as a tool of acculturation as well as a medium utilized by indigenous authors to revitalize their language and culture are particularly welcome. Possible topics include literature, testimony, collective authorship, and the politics of library and the collection. We are especially interested in proposals dealing with indigenous initiatives in response to so-called lettered archives which diffuse marginalizing representations of indigenous populations through various media.
