Scientific and Literary Discourse in the Western Cultural Tradition

Presiding Officer:
Alexander Pichugin, Rutgers University

This panel invites papers that examine the dynamics of interplay, overlap, convergence and other forms of co-existence of literary and scientific discourses in the Western cultural tradition. Papers addressing different periods and genres will be considered, including but not limited to romantic science, nature philosophy, and science fiction. Both text-based analyses of specific works and situating the topic in one or more theoretical frameworks are welcome. Proposals framing the topic in teaching interdisciplinary courses will be considered. Especially welcome are the papers approaching the topic from the ecocritical prospective.
