Délice Paloma: Of Women Entrepreneurs and Entreprenantes

Michele Chossat, Seton Hill University

In his films, Nadir Moknèche explores the lives of women caught in difficult or desperate situations. Far from giving up, women team up and organize. They create hopeful futures for themselves in the midst of instability, corruption and injustice. In a male oriented culture, they dare to try living their dreams.

In my paper, I will examine the daily lives of the main female characters that are depicted, paying attention to context, period and customs. Is Moknèche trying to give a pessimistic or realistic vision of the society in which he grew up? Or did he create spaces and characters that are purely fiction? A close examination of scenes and dialogs will reveal the symptomatic and successful recipes of these acclaimed long-métrages.
