Feedback About PAMLA 2010

Thank you to everyone who made our recent conference in Honolulu such a success. As we begin to plan next year's event, we would like to know what worked well for you and what needs improvement. To that end, we have created an online survey to gather feedback about the conference. Completing the survey will only take a few minutes of your time, and it will help our planning efforts immensely.

Special Session Proposals for PAMLA 2011

We are hosting our 109th Annual Conference, on Saturday and Sunday, November 5-6, 2011, at Scripps College, Claremont, California (about thirty minutes east of Los Angeles, in the lovely town of Claremont, one of the real jewels of Southern California).

Interested parties may propose special sessions on specific topics by December 15, 2010.

2010-2011 Officers Announced

We are pleased to announce the results of our 2010 PAMLA elections. The new officers will officially join the PAMLA Executive Committee on November 13 at the conference in Honolulu.  Lorely French (Pacific University) was elected Second Vice-President. Sabine Wilke (University of Washington) will become President, and Ana María Rodríguez-Vivaldi will become First-Vice President. Damian Bacich (San Jose State University) and Ellen Finkelpearl (Scripps College) were each elected to the Executive Committee for three-year terms.

Graduate Student Mixer at PAMLA 2010 Conference

Our outgoing graduate student representative, Lorenzo Giachetti, has organized a casual mixer for PAMLA graduate students during the 2010 conference.  It will take place on Sunday, November 14th, beginning at 7:30pm, at the Doubletree Alana Bistro & Wine Bar. If you are a graduate student, please take a moment to fill out this online survey to tell us about your interests and intended participation in the conference, if any.

PAMLA 2010 Elections

The PAMLA 2010 Election ballot has been emailed to all members who are current in dues for the 2010 calendar year.  Voting must be completed by midnight, October 30, 2010.  If you were expecting a ballot but did not receive an email, please contact

Pacific Coast Philology Editorship Changes Hands

After years of diligent work and extraordinary service, our Pacific Coast Philology (PCP) co-editors, Lorely French and Pauline Beard, will be retiring from their positions this November.  They will be succeeded by the capable team of Roswitha Burwick, former PAMLA President and Professor of German at Scripps College, and Friederike von Schwerin-High, Assistant Professor of German at Pomona College.  Learn more about this change in editorship by following the links below.

Thank you all for your patience as we've worked to design the 2010 PAMLA conference program so as to meet everyone’s needs. With approximately 135 sessions and five hundred papers on a wide variety of fascinating topics, you simply don’t want to miss this conference.

Please Donate to the Graduate Student Scholarship Fund

If you are looking to do a good deed, think about making a donation (of anything from $5 to $1,000) to PAMLA's Graduate Student Scholarship Fund. You can easily do so by using our Acteva payment system, and your donation will help a deserving graduate student to attend our annual conference. This year, perhaps because of shrinking university support, we received a record-breaking number of scholarship applications, and we at PAMLA have always attempted to help our graduate student members with their professional development.

Register for the PAMLA 2010 Annual Meeting by September 15, 2010

The 2010 PAMLA Membership Fee and separate Conference Fee are both due by September 15, 2010. Presenters and session chairs who haven't paid both fees by this date will be removed from the conference program.
