PAMLA 2012 Election

The PAMLA 2012 Election ballot will be emailed on September 25 to all members who are current in dues for the 2012 calendar year.  Voting must be completed by midnight, October 10, 2012.  If you were expecting a ballot but did not receive an email, please contact

Sandra Cisneros to Speak at PAMLA 2012

PAMLA will inaugrate the Creative Artist Spotlight, a new conference feature, with the very talented and inspiring author, Sandra Cisneros.  On Friday, October 19, from 6:30-7:30pm, she  will speak about her work at Seattle University.  From 7:30-8:30pm, Cisneros will sign books and there will be a light refreshment reception for PAMLA members and university community.  Read more about Cisneros here.

CFP: Oceanic Popular Culture Association Conference

The host of our 2010 PAMLA Conference, Chaminade University of Honolulu, is also hosting a conference in about a month and a half, on May 25-26, 2012, with the keynote speaker being Lois-Ann Yamanaka. If you'd like to visit Hawaii for a warm and intimate conference, you still have a few days to propose a paper. The deadline is April 30, 2012. Here's the link to the OPCA blog:


Special Events at PAMLA 2012

We are proud to announce some of our special events for this year’s PAMLA conference, to be held on Friday, October 19 through Sunday, October 21, at the Renaissance Seattle Hotel and Seattle University (our sessions on Friday will be held at the Renaissance Hotel; Saturday’s and Sunday’s session will be at Seattle University).

ASLE News Highlights PAMLA

The Association for the Study of Literature and Environment (ASLE) reports on the PAMLA 2011 conference in the Winter 2012 issue of their newsletter.  Kevin Hutchings and Jessica Carey, University of Northern British Columbia, summarize the two ecocriticism panels and other talks on environmental topics.  They conclude that "All in all, the 2011 PAMLA conference demonstrated that ecocriticism is alive and thriving on the west coast.

PAMLA 2012 Proposal Submission System is Open

The PAMLA 2012 website, and the online proposal submission form, are now available.  There are over 120 approved session topics for this year's conference, to be held October 19-21 at Seattle University.  All proposals must be submitted online through the PAMLA 2012 website by midnight, April 22, 2012.  Presiding Officers will inform submitters whether their papers are accepted or declined between April 23 and May 15.

PAMLA 2012 Membership/Conference Payment Form

You may now join PAMLA or renew your membership for the 2012 calendar year.  You can also register for the 2012 conference at Seattle University.  Participation in the conference requires payment of both membership dues and the conference registration fee.  Like last year, you have the option of paying a combined membership/conference fee immediately, so you don't have to worry about remitting the conference fee later.
