In Search of the Californio Archive

Presiding Officer:
Judit Palencia Gutiérrez, University of California, Riverside

Californio literature is one of the first literatures in a language other than English systematically written during the XIX century in the US. It is almost unknown because of the historical redefinition of California after 1880 and the lack of access to the manuscripts that contain this literature. However, its different use of Spanish has some certain characteristics that have continued until present day. Striving to give it the importance it deserves, and, looking to shed some light on the topic, we seek papers related to: Californio Literature and History, Californio Spanish and/or its Relationship with English.
