Images of Crisis: Poetic Ways of Seeing Disasters

Whether it is Landscape with the Fall of Icarus after Pieter Brueghel or the photograph of a dead three year-old Syrian boy on the beach, visual representations of disasters unsettle us, often in irrational or unexplainable ways. This session inquires what happens when visual images are mediated through literary arts.
